Chase Bank transformed into a School

The old Chase Bank building located at 1675 Chester Ave in Bakersfield, California has undergone a transformation by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools! The parking deck was long overdue for repairs and had been leaking for years. Well as of last week, there are no more leaks, and they are extremely happy with our crew. We also want to thank Garrett Braun with Sika who worked hard to get this project started for the owners. Also, for making sure that all the materials arrived on time, his onsite inspections and reports were spot on.

Angelus employees install Precast Pavers at Orange County Museum of Art OCMA, Costa Mesa, CA

1/18/24

Orange County Museum of Arts (OCMA)

We recently went to OCMA in Costa Mesa, CA to inspect our precast work to see how it is holding up. We reviewed all the stairs, landings, benches, and paver work we did last year and we were told that they love the work we performed and couldn't be happier. We want to thank Chuck Gramlich of Precast Solutions, Inc. for manufacturing all these custom pieces for us. With over 2,000 pieces of treads, risers, planks, benches and landings, this was a very challenging project especially because all the interior walls were not built per the plans and specs. So, we spent many hours dry cutting individual pieces to fit. Not an easy task when there are curves and varying widths from top to bottom and we still had to comply with the ADA requirements. Very challenging but very rewarding when you see the finished work. I am proud of our trade craftsmen we have working for us.

Angelus is installing Cool Roofs and SolarTube skylights at LAX terminal 4

1/8/24

Los Angeles International Airport, LAX, Terminal 4 for American Airlines

The new $1.6 Billion-dollar American Airlines terminal at LAX is well under way. The many weather events and detail changes have not delayed our construction schedule. AA T-4 terminal has been a challenging but rewarding project for the 22 men out there working hard to beat the rains. We have been installing a bunch of Sika Sarnafil out at LAX all year for Hensel-Phelps and LAWA with great success. They asked if we could cover the Solartube lighting since they are going for a LEED's (Silver) rating. How could we say no...we have already contributed LEED points by installing Sika's Solar Reflectance PVC Single-Ply Roof Membrane. This is a polyester reinforced, flame retardant, waterproofing sheet containing ultraviolet stabilizers designed for all climatic conditions. We are now installing Solartube's Efficient Lighting System. More and more owners / property management companies are taking a hard look at achieving a LEED status for their properties.

Angelus completed the historical restoration of the Neptune Pool at Hearts Castle, San Simeon, CA Angelus working on the historical restoration of the Neptune Pool at Hearts Castle, San Simeon, CA

6/16/23

Hearst Castle Neptune Pool:
Restored to Glory

The Neptune Pool was originally constructed in 1924 and was expanded twice after its construction to reach its current size of 104 feet long by 58 feet wide. It holds an impressive 345,000 gallons of water. The pool features multiple Italian marble statues and fountains and is lined by 9,000 square feet of Vermont marble.

Due to seismic movement and the lack of waterproofing materials at the time of construction, the pool has leaked water for most of its 90-year history. Before the renovation of the pool, it was estimated that the pool lost nearly 5,000 gallons of water per day. California had been experiencing prolonged drought, prompting the state to set aside nearly 10 million dollars to stop the water leaking. The renovation lasted nearly four years and was completed in 2020.

The Neptune Pool repair was the winner of a 2019 Preservation Design Award for Craftsmanship given out by the California Preservation Foundation. The California Preservation Foundation Awards showcase the best in California historic preservation. About the Neptune Pool repair project, the jury noted the audacity and scale of the work, stating “this was such a courageous project to take on, and the craftsmanship is incredible. They did an impressive job…”

Raining Outside but Coating Inside

We collaborated with Sika and Watry Design to write the specifications for this Hybrid system. Our experienced crew knocked out 8,000 sq ft in two days even with temperatures being in the high 40's and low 50's. They prepped the concrete, cracks and applied the Sikadur 22 Lo Mod FS, aggregate and Sikalastic 745AL topcoat ahead of schedule. Now the owners can get their ticket toll booth opened as we prepare for the next 18,000 sq ft. If any property management companies want to add a Roadway Beautification System to their property, then please reach out and we will show you how.

Technology Center Building –
Atrium Skylight Restoration

The Technology Building is located on the West side of the Orange Coast Community College campus located at 2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa CA, 92626. The building was completed in the mid 1990’s and features a skylight assembly at the roof level over the main atrium. The skylight design features vertical mullions with horizontal gasketed ribs. The assembly is failing which is resulting in multiple leaks throughout the building and therefore requires a full waterproofing restoration. The scope of this project will include establishment of all safety measures, appropriate scaffold and/or apparatus to access the skylight, and full restoration of the waterproofing components to render the skylight watertight.

40 year celebration party at Angelus Waterproofing

1/31/23

This Year, We Are Celebrating Our 40 Years in Business.

Angelus was started back in 1983 by Michael and Lori Peltier who ran a very successful business and were very well respected in the industry. During my days at Pacific Polymers they were one of our top customers decade after decade. Today the success continues with my business partners Shaun Geiger and David Felix. And we could not carry on the success without all our team members in the field and office. How time flies! I am excited of the direction we are going and try every day to make the Peltiers proud of where we have taken AWR. Thank you to everyone who works with us on project after project.
